Understanding the Fiancé Visa Process

Step 1: Filing the Petition (1-3 months)
The first step in the fiancé visa process is to file a petition with USCIS. This involves submitting Form I-129F, Petition for Alien Fiancé(e), along with supporting documentation, such as proof of citizenship, proof of meeting in person, and proof of a bona fide relationship. The processing time for the petition can take anywhere from 1-3 months, depending on the workload of the USCIS office.
Step 2: National Visa Center (NVC) Processing (1-2 months)
Once the petition is approved, it will be sent to the National Visa Center (NVC) for processing. The NVC will assign a case number and send the petition to the U.S. embassy or consulate where the fiancé will apply for the visa. This step can take around 1-2 months.
Step 3: Visa Application and Interview (1-3 months)
The fiancé will then apply for the K-1 visa at the U.S. embassy or consulate. This involves submitting a visa application, supporting documentation, and attending an interview with a consular officer. The processing time for the visa application can take anywhere from 1-3 months, depending on the workload of the embassy or consulate.
Step 4: Entry into the United States ( immediate)
Once the visa is approved, the fiancé can enter the United States immediately. The fiancé must enter the United States within 6 months of the visa being issued.
